You can build your own Website!
Building a website is easier than you think. With the right tools, you don’t need to write any program code. You just need to think about what you want then perform some simple steps.
What you mostly need to do is spend time thinking about what you want to achieve when you are building your website. There are lots of different kinds of sites when a great variety of different content. Do you want to promote your business? Sell products? Write Blog articles? Promote yourself and profession? Are you wanting to be mobile optimized, desktop optimized, or both? The list can go on and on. Having a clear idea of what you are trying to achieve will help you greatly as you start putting things together. The idea doesn’t have to be formalized, or even written down (although that can be helpful), instead at least clear in your mind and that’s really all you need to get started building your website.
Then consider your budget. Websites can be built and promoted for very little cost (virtually free) but as all things in life you ‘get what you pay for’. Going minimal and free-ish can get you something out there, but often you will get terrible performance and slow page loading (a certain doom in the modern world), poor support, the site being down, etc. If you want a simple Blog just to talk about things this could very well be fine. If you want to support your business and/or products you will almost certainly want to spend more. How much is up to you, but typically the more you spend (especially on advertising) the more you can get back. But nothing is guaranteed.
Speaking of which I want to warn about paid programs to teach you all this. In my opinion you don’t need them, all the information is out there if you look for it. There are lots of articles and sources for information about building a Website. People are generally happy to share what they know. In my experience programs that tell you “just buy my program and I’ll teach you to make 6 figures in 6 months!” are B.S. What usually happens is that the seller makes money. They sell you the program, the program includes getting other items that the seller benefits from. I’ve seen it happen before and within our household. I’m not saying there are not any quality courses out there that supply real value – I’m sure there are. But think about it carefully before purchasing and see what you can do on your own first.
That being said I must offer full disclosure and honesty. Some of what I will suggest are things that I could benefit from either financially or indirectly. But I only recommend things I use or have used and have complete familiarity with them. If I didn’t like them I wouldn’t suggest them. If I haven’t personally used them I will always point them out and mention what review sources I have relied on. You are always free to seek you own resources and compare competitors for goods and services and make your own choices. I offer suggestions, nothing more, and based on personal experience. I learned a lot of what to do (and especially what not to do) when building our website. My insight is free, what tools you may or may not choose to employ are totally up to you!
Now that all the introduction is out of the way, I will be soon posting part 2: Hosting, the foundation of a web site.
Best Wishes and good luck on your (possibly) new great future and building a Website to make it true!
